    CMA Establishes Alternative Energies Fund

    The

    AEF

has been created by the Canadian Motorcycle Association to encourage and assist Canadians competing in international competitions for motorcycles using power sources other than the conventional gasoline engine. It will also provide assistance to Canadian organizers of events for motorcycles using alternative power systems.

Recent years have seen significant advances in alternative energy systems for transportation uses. Much, although not all of this interest has been focused on various electric power systems. Several manufacturers now have or are developing electric power motorcycles for use in road racing, enduro, trials and motocross, as well as for street use. These machines are not just electrified bicycles but are full-fledged motorcycles.

In 2009 there were a number of international races for electric motorcycles, most notable of these being the TTXGP road race at the Isle of Man in June and the 3 day Eco-Enduro in Denmark in December. For 2010, the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) world governing body for motorcycling, has established an e-power road racing world championship series. By establishing the AEF the CMA hopes to encourage Canadians to participate in these events.

Graham Read, CMA Alternative Energies Fund Chair, Chair of the CMA Environmental Panel, and a member of the FIM International Environment Commission comments. “Competition in the past has led to significant technological developments that have improved the efficiency, safety and usefulness of the motorcycles we use today. Motorcycles, by their very nature are more efficient than other vehicles when some form of motorized transport is needed. They can do much to reduce fuel consumption and traffic congestion. The CMA wishes to support the development of new and innovative technologies that will encourage motorcycle use to the benefit of the environment and of society at large.”

  • Racing : National Snocross Series Racing 2009/2010

The International Series Of Champions recently unveiled its 2009-2010 schedule in the following release:

Minneapolis, MN (September 2009) The 2009?2010 AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series will feature four new race venues to compliment five established Nationals from seasons past.

“We are very excited about the new race venues for this season,” said ISOC CEO John Daniels. “We’ve worked very hard to find locations which will lend to success for not only ISOC, but most importantly our racers, fans, sponsors and the entire sport of snocross.”

ISOC’s goal when adding new venues is to make sure they fit a certain criteria to benefit everyone involved with snocross and will expand the sport of snocross. Among other factors, the evaluation process weighs the combination of race track set?up, community population, expected event media coverage, local commitment to support the race to ensure success and long?term potential for growth.

The schedule for the 2009?2010 AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series is below. New National events for this season are noted by an asterisk (*).

The five venues which were part of the ACSS schedule last season will again be the focal points for the season. “Snocross tradition can almost be summed up with three events – the AMSOIL Duluth National, Nielsen Enterprises Grand Finale and the Air Force National at Canterbury Park,” continued Daniels, “we are thrilled we have multi?year agreements to keep these events as cornerstone events for the ACSS.”

    Date Race Location
Nov 27th-29th AMSOIL Duluth National Spirit Mountain, Duluth, MN
Dec 19th & 20th Potawatomi National* Milwaukee Mile, Milwaukee, WI
Jan 9th Western Nationals* Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, UT
Jan 23rd & 24th Air Force National Canterbury Park, Shakopee, MN
Feb 5th & 6th Eastern Nationals Finger Lakes Gaming & Casino, Farmington, NY
Feb 13th & 14th New England Nationals* Rockingham Park, Salem, NH
Feb 20th & 21st Canadian Nationals* Hiawatha Horsepark, Sarnia, ON, CA
March 6th & 7th Hayward 300 LCO Casino, Hayward, WI
March 19th-21st Nielsen Enterprises Grand Finale Grand Geneva Resort, Lake Geneva, WI

The final two returning Nationals are the Eastern Nationals and the Hayward 300. Both held their first ever snocross National last season and we’re deemed successful by the overwhelming community support, spectator turn out, media coverage and excitement by all parties to build on initial success.

“We are very happy with how the ACSS schedule has come together in only our second season,” said ISOC Director of Operations Scott Lorentz, “We had many great venues we had to turn down this season because the dates just did not work with the rest of our schedule. But after our first season, we are already working on next year’s schedule and are very excited to work those venues into future seasons.”

More about the events, tickets, racer information and specifics for each race will appear on the ISOC website as it becomes available. The ISOC webpage is www.ISOCRacing.com or you can call the ISOC Main Office at (866) 771?4762.

  • Racing : Historic Moment in Canadian Motorcycle Competition

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 27, 2008) - The Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada (MCC) today announced the formation of the MCC Competition Working Group to coordinate and expand motorcycle racing in Canada. The MCC, World Enduro Canada (WEC), the Canadian Motosport Racing Club (CMRC) and Parts Canada Superbike Championship (produced by Professional Motorsports Productions (PMP), as founding members agree that the formation of this working group will put Canada's competition racing on the map as a force to be reckoned with in the international racing scene.

"This is one of the most significant developments on the Canadian motorcycling scene in 25-years" says MCC President Peter Jacobs. "For years the Canadian Competition scene has been fragmented, now through this MCC working group, riders, promotional partners and industry will come together to offer events that meet the highest standards of operation and sanctioning and present fair and expanding opportunities for our riders to compete with the best."

"The recognition these various disciplines, series and riders will now receive at the national and international levels is long overdue and will allow Canadian motorcycling to be deservedly showcased worldwide," added Mark Stallybrass, President of CMRC, Canada's leading operator of competitive motocross, dirt track, SuperMoto, Cross Country, ATV and Ice racing.

"When it comes to talent, Canada's motorcycle racers are second to none," said Colin Fraser of PMP, organizer of the national road racing series for Parts Canada Superbike Championships. "By joining forces, we are creating a win-win opportunity for the individuals who choose competitive racing in Canada and at an international level."

Lawrence Hacking, one of the principals of World Enduro Canada comments that, "Canadian off road racers deserve recognition. Our FIM sanctioned WEC events have demonstrated the concept to everyone involved in the sport: our riders now know that they can indeed compete at the highest level on an international stage. The formation of the competition council will help carry this momentum to both a National Enduro and Cross Country Series."

The MCC, is the not-for-profit national advocacy organization that champions motorcycling interests throughout Canada, established in 2004, it is comprised of national, provincial and territorial organizations, regional clubs, individual riders and industry representatives.

More riders means a stronger voice...so join the over 70,000 existing MCC members across Canada and help us shape the future of motorcycling in Canada!
